Reiki is one of the most ancient healing techniques known to mankind , and there are many stories of where Reiki originated. A common belief is that it is thought to be thousands of years old and originated as a Tibetan Buddhist practice that was re-discovered in the nineteenth century by Dr. Mikao Usui.

The Japanese word ‘Rei-ki’ means Universal Life Energy. Reiki consists of two syllables: ‘rei’, which describes the cosmic, universal aspect of the energy and ‘ki’ which describes the fundamental life force flowing and pulsating in all living things. Another translation of the syllable ‘Rei’ is that the energy is beyond the Universe, beyond thought and form. It is the transcendent spiritual essence out of which the Universe springs. It is enlightenment or nirvana.

Reiki is a vibrational form of healing that allows you to absorb more of the Universal Life Energy that is all around us. Reiki works by dissolving or eliminating toxic energy and substances from many levels whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Reiki helps to create a balance of body, mind and spirit. Reiki is not just a physical treatment; it is personal and spiritual growth therapy. It teaches you to take responsibility for yourself. Reiki as a natural healing energy flows in a powerful and concentrated form from the hands of a Reiki healer. Energy emanates more strongly from the hands than from other parts of the body, and there are minor chakra points in the palms of the hands. The ‘laying on’ of hands by a Reiki healer directs the healing energy into the body of the receiver and the energies flow towards any health or energy imbalances, thereby helping the body to clear the blockages and accelerates the body’s own ability to heal. The Reiki healer is used as a channel to conduct the ‘Universal Life Energy’. As a result, no personal energy is drawn or drained from the healer, who is simultaneously charged and strengthened. Once attuned to Reiki, the ability stays within you forever. This is a ‘truth’ which is beyond proof in ordinary scientific terms.

REIKI IS DIVIDED INTO THREE LEVELS

In Reiki Level One , the attunement itself heals the physical level dis-eases in the receiver. It is primarily for self-healing, however, the Reiki One healer can also do healing for others that are physically present. This type of healing is known as direct healing-the healer must directly place their hands on themselves or the other person. The Reiki Master places sacred symbols into the initiates crown chakra and into the palm chakras places the symbol that actualises the attunement process.

The Reiki Level Two attunement measurably increases the amount of healing energy, and the attunement focuses upon emotional, mental and karmic healing in the person who receives it. After the attunement, old emotions, unhealed former situations, past lives and negative mental patterns resurface to be fully healed. This can take as long as six months, but is necessary although not always comfortable. Reiki Level Two also adds the tools and the methods for absent healing. In Reiki Level Two the three Sacred Symbols are placed in the hands of the initiate. The Reiki symbols are sacred, traditionally they are kept confidential. They are only revealed during Reiki Level Two.

The Reiki Level Three is the Master Level. The initiate has the Master symbol placed in the palm chakras of both hands and is shown the Master Symbols for passing attunements.

Reiki works by reconnecting people to their life force energy . Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras and meridians. It also flows in our aura, the energy field around our physical body. This life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this life force flow is disrupted, it causes diminished functions in our physical body.

The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings and our bodies immediately react to our thoughts. As soon as we think a negative thought (or find ourselves in a negative situation), the body reacts with weakness or reduced vitality. Our life force becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts or feelings attach themselves to our energy field and disrupt the flow of life force.

Reiki works and heals by flowing through the hands of the Reiki channel into a persons affected parts of their energy field and charges them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy fields of the physical body as well as the aura. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

REIKI ATTUNEMENTS

The key to Reiki is provided by the ‘energy attunements’, also known as ‘initiations’ in the form of symbols ‘implanted’ into the consciousness of the receiver. These attunements differentiate Reiki from all other healing techniques, and they allow the Universal Life Energy to flow more intensely through the receiver. During Reiki-Level One, you will receive four attunements which open you up to the Reiki energy, the first attunement opens up the ability to use Reiki, and the fourth attunement seals it in for life. It is the attunements themselves that are Reiki, and without this process-which must be passed directly by a Reiki Master to student-the healing system is not Reiki but something else.

With the attunements a cleansing takes place, the level or degree of the cleansing depending on the person. The cleansing may occur on all levels physical, mental emotional and spiritual. The attunements release blockages and toxins and are set free to be eradicated from your body. Habits may die, insights may be gained and attitudes may alter. The changes that occur after Reiki One are usually pleasant or not too uncomfortable, it may however, challenge you to greater spiritual growth.

During the first 21 days your energy system will be adapting to the attunements and you may have experiences which are not normal to you. These experiences can occur to the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual bodies. It takes a week for your chakra system to adapt to the new energy level and new alignment. You may notice physical manifestations in the form of feeling invigorated or lethargic. Some emotional reactions may also take place. You may release anger or cry a lot. You may notice an increase in your psychic abilities. The experience will be unique to you and is part of where Reiki ill take you. You will need to drink plenty of water during this period to allow your body to ‘flush’ toxins from your body. After receiving Reiki One, it is best to do as many healing sessions as possible at least for the first month, including a daily self-healing.

Reiki was conceived as a mistake-proof healing system. If it is used for other than positive means, nothing happens and no harm can occur.

There is no limit to Reiki. It comes from pure being. It is infinite intelligence. Each time you use it you pour Light and Love into yourself and the receiver. Reiki opens up your heart and fills you with love and energy. You begin to glow. Reiki transforms your consciousness and body every time you use it. Habits die, resentments are forgotten and you begin to look younger. Reiki not only transforms your inner world, it heals your connection to the outer world.

Reiki is full of love; it opens the heart to life. It is full of wisdom. It is attempting to teach you all the time, listen to it.

Reiki is full of strength, it is Universal Life Energy.

Reiki can be applied to pets, plants and crystals.

Just place your hands on your pets and allow the healing energy to flow. Fish can be treated by touching the wall of the aquarium, thereby charging the water.

Potted plants take in a large proportion of their nutrition through their roots, so the most efficient way to treat them is to embrace the pot with both of your hands and let the energy flow.

Food and drinks can be energised by just placing your hand over it and letting the energy flow.

Crystals can be easily charged with Reiki energy just by letting the energy flow into them, while holding the crystals.

Reiki energy heals the whole person . In healing a headache, for example, Reiki may also heal other organs and levels. Though the healer’s hands are on the person’s area of pain, her head, many headaches have their source in the digestive system. If the headache is caused by intestinal disturbance, the energy goes to the intestines, as well as to the head pain. If the headache has emotional causes, stress for example, Reiki also heals on that level.
